Digital Pianos

Digital pianos offer several advantages over acoustic pianos, particularly for the first time buyer:

They take up less space
They are much lighter and easier to move
They will stay in tune without regular tuning
They are not susceptible to 'drying out'
The volume is easily controlled and headphones can be used for silent practice
They are typically significantly cheaper than acoustic pianos

Having said that, no-one would claim that they are a match for acoustic pianos in terms of quality of sound, but much progress has been made over the past few years both in terms of the tonal quality and the feel of the keyboard action - to the extent that digital pianos can be a good solution for piano students at all levels of ability.
